Northmark (“Northmark,” “we,” “us”) provides a personal budgeting service at northmark.app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. By using Northmark you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

• Account information — your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plaintext.
• Financial information via Plaid — when you connect a financial institution, we receive account details (such as account name, type, mask, and balance) and transaction data (amounts, dates, descriptions, and categories) through Plaid. We never receive or store your bank login credentials.
• Technical and security data — limited logs such as IP address and timestamps, used to operate and secure the service.

2. How we use your information

• To provide budgeting features — balances, plans, projections, and insights.
• To operate, maintain, and secure the service (including fraud and abuse prevention).
• To communicate essential information about your account.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your financial data for advertising.

3. Plaid

We use Plaid Inc. to connect to your financial institution. By linking an account, you also agree to Plaid’s handling of your information as described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. You grant Northmark and Plaid the right to access and use your financial data to provide the service.

4. How we share information

• Plaid, to establish and maintain your account connections.
• Infrastructure providers that host the service on our behalf, under confidentiality obligations.
• Legal — where required by law or to protect rights and safety.

We never sell your personal information.

5. Security

We follow industry-standard practices for handling financial data. All traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS), and sensitive data — including financial-institution access tokens — is encrypted at rest. Access is restricted and audited. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

6. Data retention and deletion

We retain your information while your account is active. You can export all of your data or delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting your account removes your data from our active systems and revokes Northmark’s access to your linked institutions via Plaid. Residual copies in encrypted backups age out over time.

7. Your rights

You may access, export, correct, or delete your information. Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights. To make a request, contact us at the address below.

8. Children

Northmark is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect information from, children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA).

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
